Base Navigation: Messages
Blackboard Support
💬 Read and send course messages from one place in Base Navigation.
The Messages tool in Base Navigation is a single place to read messages from all of your courses. You can open your global Messages page directly from the left-hand navigation bar. By design, this tool keeps quick communication (reminders, quick questions, and social interactions) inside the course instead of in email.
📥 Viewing and replying to messages
If you have unread messages, a number appears on the Messages tool link showing how many new messages you have received since your last log-in.
- Select Messages on the left-hand navigation bar.
-
Choose the course you want to view and send messages in from your list of available courses.
-
Select Inbox to view messages you have received, or Sent to view messages you have sent.
-
Open a message by selecting its title under Subject.
- From the View Messages screen, Reply, Forward, or Delete the message by selecting the matching button at the top of the screen.
✏️ Creating a new message
- Select Messages on the left-hand navigation bar.
-
Choose the course you want to send a message in from your list of available courses.
-
Select Create Message at the top of the screen.
-
Select the To button to choose one user or several users to send your message to.
- Under Compose Message, type a Subject in the Subject field and write your message in the Content Editor. Once your message is complete, select Submit to send it.
ℹ️ Reading vs. creating: Both tasks start the same way (open Messages, then pick a course). After that, choose Inbox to read a message, or Create Message to start a new one.
