Reset Your Password: Students (Self-Service Password Reset, SSPR)

Reset your password 🔑
Forgot it, locked out, or just want a fresh one? Set it up once, then you can reset yourself any time in about two minutes, no phone call needed.
⏱️ Two parts, one time. Part 1 sets up Self-Service Password Reset (you only do this once). Part 2 is the actual reset, which you can use any time after that.

🛠️ Part 1 · Set it up (one time)

Do these once so you can reset on your own later.

  1. Go to myaccount.microsoft.com and open Security info.
  2. Sign in with your College account (for example, username@cod.edu).
  3. Add at least two verification methods. Recommended: Microsoft Authenticator (number match) and a phone (text or call).
  4. Set your default sign-in method to Microsoft Authenticator if you can, then confirm you see at least two methods listed.

🔑 Part 2 · Reset your password

Any time you forget it or want to change it:

  1. Go to the password reset portal: passwordreset.microsoftonline.com.
  2. Enter your COD email address and type the characters in the picture. This is the screen you will see:

  1. Choose your scenario: I forgot my password, or I know my password but can't sign in.
  2. Verify it is you: approve the Microsoft Authenticator prompt, or use a phone method you registered.
  3. Create a new password that meets College requirements (below), then finish and sign in.
🔐 Your new password needs:
  • At least 8 characters
  • At least 3 of these 4: an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number, and a special character (like ! @ #)
  • Not any password you have used before
✅ Where your new password works: it syncs automatically to your Windows login (on campus or via VPN), Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive), and Blackboard.
💡 Good to know:
  • Off campus? After resetting, connect to VPN or sign in once on campus so your computer picks up the new password.
  • Your COD password expires periodically. You can use this same reset any time to set a new one.
  • Update saved passwords on your phone and tablet so they stop prompting you.
